About Me

Hi there, my name is Tim. I'm an atheist.

I grew up in an evangelical Protestant household. I went to church most Sundays and even went to a Christian school from sixth to twelfth grade. I was a sincere believer from the time I was old enough to understand Christianity until the age of about twenty, although my "official" conversion occurred at age seven. I was also a young-earth creationist for most of that time.

It's hard to pinpoint the exact time that I started having doubts, but they probably began in 2007, toward the end of my senior year of high school. I fought off these uncertainties for a few years, but in 2010 I began investigating my faith in earnest. After reading several books and countless articles, I left Christianity and eventually became an atheist. I started this blog at the beginning of 2011 in order to explicitly lay out the reasons I no longer believe.

Recently I graduated from UCSD with a bachelor's degree in cognitive science, which has granted me some useful insight into both the power and the limitations of the human mind. I also minored in writing, which has hopefully been of some help to me here (although my focus has been primarily on fiction). Aside from this blog, my hobbies include playing tennis, watching anime, and reading about topics such as religion and philosophy.
